Description

Join us for a special event that combines both NYC Audubon's NYCHA in Nature and Harbor Herons programs. Over the last several years, colonies of Yellow-Crowned Night Herons have nested in the Rockaways, specifically at the Hammel and Redfern NYCHA housing complexes. Join NYC Audubon scientists to learn more about these rare birds, and count their nests and chicks!

The group will meet in front of the NYCHA Redfern Community Center at 15-44 Hassock St. No limit; bring your friends! Free.

NYCHA in Nature is a partnership program with NYC Audubon and the Public Housing Community Fund to offer birding opportunities and exposure to nature for NYCHA residents and the general public. The program will explore the outdoor space within the NYCHA developments as well as nearby public green space.

Accessibility and Directions:

Terrain is flat and paved. The Q114 bus stops closest to the the meeting spot. Street parking can be found surrounding the NYCHA complex.
