"In Memoriam:" A Papercraft Workshop (9/21) (Free)
Admission
- Free
Description
Saturday, September 21 1:00-2:00pm
Join NYC Bird Alliance Artist in Residence, Susie Oh, for a papercraft diorama workshop on Governors Island! Drawing inspiration from natural history art and museum dioramas, participants will construct a shadowbox display using paper cutouts of the extinct Passenger Pigeon. We'll discuss the stories of the last Passenger Pigeon and other endlings as parables for conservation, human folly, and loss.
The workshop will meet on Governors Island in the NEW location of our seasonal nature center: Colonels Row House 405B. Registration not required, but encouraged. Free.
Accessibility and Directions:
The Governors Island ferry is free on weekends before noon, but if you plan to arrive in the afternoon, you will need to purchase ferry tickets. Governors Island contains a variety of terrain, from hilly, grassy areas to paved and cobble stone paths. The latter can be difficult to walk on with strollers, for example. Public restrooms are located a short distance away from the Colonels Row House.
