You may have heard our next guests on the NPR airwaves. BirdNote’s executive director Nick Bayard and producer Arianna Remmell will discuss the importance of storytelling for bird conservation. What does it take to create a thought-provoking 2-minute episode of BirdNote Daily? Tune in for a special behind-the-scenes look at production, and learn how programs like BirdNote en Español connect and empower diverse audiences.
About the Speakers:
Nick Bayard has served at the helm of BirdNote since 2021 and has led efforts to expand BirdNote’s audience, launch and grow BirdNote’s productions in Spanish, and contribute to more diversity and inclusion in environmental conservation and public media. Prior to his time at BirdNote, he served as an environmental education Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, a natural sciences instructor in the Grand Teton National Park, Director of a large social services organization, and as Deputy Director for the City of Tacoma’s Office of Equity and Human Rights.
Ariana Remmel is the managing producer of BirdNote Daily and BirdNote en Español. Ari oversees the writing, editing, and development of the radio shows and supports the production of BirdNote’s longform and special projects. Their previous print and audio reporting has appeared in Science, Nature, Audubon magazine, and elsewhere. Ari began their career as a chemist before making the switch to science journalism; they hold an M.S. in chemistry from the University of California San Diego and a M.S. in science communication from the University of California Santa Cruz.
