21st Annual Shorebird Festival at Jamaica Bay: Bilingual Birding (8/16)

Shorebirds are a diverse group with approximately 235 species, over 40 of which visit NYC each year. August is the perfect time to explore the diversity of New York City’s shorebirds! Join us at the 20th Annual Shorebird Festival where NYC Bird Alliance and friends of Alas Latina will be leading Bilingual outing starting at 11am. The group will be venturing out to the East Pond. 

The 20th Annual Shorebird Festival is in partnership with American Littoral Society, NYC Plover Project, Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, NYC Parks, and Gateway National Recreation Area. 

The group will meet at the NYC Bird Alliance table infront of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. FREE. This festival is kid-friendly and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Accessibility: Restrooms are available at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center.

Directions: The Visitor Center is a one-mile walk from the Broad Channel A subway station; it is also accessible via the Q21 and Q53 buses. Free parking is available in the Visitor Center lot. Visit the National Park Service website for the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for comprehensive directions by public transportation and car.
